Woman working out on a stationary bike in a gym. The text reads

Introducing our Gym M.O.M (Member of the Month) for December 2020 … Katie Dickerson!

Since day one, Katie has walked through our doors and has straight up dominated, applying intensity to all we do, from Metcons to foam rolling!

She used that level of intensity to place 1st in our in-house competition back in October. If we had a few words to describe her to anyone, it would be “she just brings it” !

But don’t take our word for it, take it from the champ herself…

Read more about Katie below!

Q: What made you decide to start functional fitness training?
I’ve spent my whole life playing sports and love being part of a team. Functional fitness seemed like a great opportunity to create that same sort of environment

Q: Are you a student/working professional/both? What do you do for a living?
I’m an Emergency Medicine physician in my first year of the Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency program. I also teach a class at Harvard Medical School and do research on the social determinants of health.

Q: What are your hobbies/interests outside of the gym?
I love playing basketball and lacrosse, as well as doing anything outside! My perfect weekend would include hiking, camping and swimming. I also love spending time with the wanna-be member of the month and my almost-husband, Blake Mayes.

Q: What are some of your favorite movements (name up to three)?
Snatches, clean and jerks and Turkish getups.

Q: What movements do you want to improve at?
Butterfly pull-ups!

Q: What advice do you have for someone considering our gym?
DO IT! Best. Gym. Ever. I love the community here.

Q: What’s your favorite “cheat” food?
Red wine.

Q: An interesting fact that we probably don’t know about you!
I spent a summer hanging out with the Dalai Lama, once walked from Seattle to San Francisco, have hitchhiked across Europe twice and have ridden a horse in every state between Maryland and Montana.

P.S. If you found this helpful, share it with someone you know who's on one of these medications or is thinking about starting. Most people hear "you're losing weight" and assume everything is working perfectly. Now you know there is more to it and more for you to gain! Source: Metabolism — Clinical and Experimental, 2025

What is the March of Dimes? The March of Dimes is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the health of mothers and babies, with a focus on preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. Learn more about the March of Dimes here. Why is it important to us? We are excited to host a workout in support of the March of Dimes and the South Shore Hospital NICU team. My sister-in-law, Amanda Dougherty, and my nephew, Owen Dougherty, received a lot of care during Owen's premature and traumatic birth. Amanda and her family will be walking on the SSH NICU/SCN team in the March for Babies walk on May 9th, and we would love to support her by donating to the cause and helping other families in need. When's the charity class? We would love for everyone to come join us, no matter your fitness level, in support of this great cause. The class will be hosted on Sunday, April 12th, at 11 am. T-shirts will also be available for purchase as a preorder up until March 27th. All proceeds from registration of this event and profits from all shirts purchased will be donated to the SSH NICU/SCN team under Amanda Dougherty. Donate and Jump into Class If you would like to donate more, you can go directly to Amanda’s page and donate here.
