November 2020's gym mom, David

November Gym “M.O.M.”

R3VIVE Fitness November 4, 2020 Announcements

Introducing our Gym M.O.M (Member of the Month) for November 2020 … David “Waldo” Walton!

Do you know the person who shows up hours before classes start and does 2-3 workouts before classes and sticks around for another two hours to stretch? Well, I just basically described David!

David is constantly working to refine his fitness skills. Not only is he a dedicated, hard working member at the gym, but he’s also a hard working physician over at Brigham and Woman’s hospital.

Next time you see him, be sure to say hi and challenge him to a max effort, wall ball shot contest (inside joke, but he’ll tell you the full story ;)).

Read more about David below!

Q: What made you decide to start functional fitness training?
A few years ago work colleague owned a CrossFit gym and convinced me to give it a try. I’ve been a devoted convert ever since!

Q: Are you a student/working professional/both? What do you do for a living?
I’m a physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, but a lifelong student of functional fitness!

Q: What are your hobbies/interests outside of the gym?
I loved to travel internationally (pre-covid), going out to eat with my wife, and hanging out with my dog Blue.

Q: What are some of your favorite movements (name up to three)?
Wall balls, clean (hang, power, or squat), and KBS (American or Russian)

Q: What are your least favorite movements?
Devil’s press, burpee box jumps, thrusters

Q: What movements do you want to improve at?
Most (if not all) of the gymnastics movements and barbell movements — I’m still on a journey with most-if-not all of them!

Q: What advice do you have for someone considering our gym?
It’s a great place to work out with an incredible community. As a person of color who has worked out in predominantly white gyms and boxes in the past, R3vive is such a welcome change, from the owners to the members and beyond. At R3vive, I feel seen and respected.

Q: What’s your favorite “cheat” food?
My mom’s sweet potato pie!

Q: What’s your spirit animal and why?
Probably an Oryx — bulky but fast, and with some horns that can mess you up if you tryna start something!

Q: What is your guilty pleasure?
Watching football all day on Sunday (1pm game, 4pm game, and 8pm game). I feel so lazy and I rarely do it but I really do enjoy it!

Q: Do you have any nicknames?
My friends back in college called me Waldo. Other than that, no other nicknames.

Q: An interesting fact that we probably don’t know about you!
I’m not Haitian, but I lived in Haiti off and on for about 15 years (for work) and speak Haitian Creole fluently. My other profession (non-clinical) is in Global Health, so I’ve spent a lot of time in Haiti and traveling globally.
